Mala Plus Shore Dive

Mala Ramp, Mala Wharf, Mala Pier, or just for brevity, Mala, as it is known locally is in our opinion, one of the best dive sites on Maui!  Built in 1922, this historic spot came toppling down at the doing of Hurricane Iniki, in 1992.

Since that time, this dive site has provided divers with some of the most amazing

diving available in the Hawaiian Islands!

The wreckage of the pier that is scattered beneath the water has a depth of

30 feet (approx 10 m), and is home to some of the biggest variety of sea life in one spot!

Diving at this location will provide you with the opportunity to watch countless species

of fish grazing through the different corals with a display of colors and motions that

will be sure to leave you wanting to go back and explore it again and again.

At Maui Diving we call this the "Shark Dive"! Mala is the spot to find several White TIp

Reef Sharks lurking around underneath the slabs and chunks of concrete that made up

the pier.  These sharks are quite timid and get scared easily, especially when dive boats

drop a load of divers and snorkelers on top of the dive site. Although the sharks can be

the highlight, we will most definitely see Green Sea Turtles and quite possibly one of our

favorite fish to look for, the Frog Fish!

We will take you on this dive from the

shore, and in a smaller group of people,

in order to give you a better chance at

seeing these magnificent animals in

their natural habitat!
